Salty about School Holidays

Get salty these School Holidays! Bring the whanau to experience collecting sea water and then touring our working salt farm to see how we turn it into drinking water and salt. After the tour, get hands on and make your own unique batch of flavoured salt or a foot scrub to take home.

Your tour starts at Cable Bay Beach on the shores of Doubtless Bay. Help the team to bucket run seawater into transportation tanks and drive back to The Taipa Salt Pig and Oceanwater’s solar powered salt and water farms.

Enjoy a wander around Oceanwater’s solar powered water farm that turns seawater into fresh drinking water. Visit their solar powered bottling plant and have a taste of New Zealand’s first solar powered water.

Then move to the Taipa Salt Pig’s solar powered salt farm and discover how salt is made using ancient techniques.

Once the tour is finished make a batch of your own unique flavoured salt or a salt-based foot scrub which you get to take home.

Finish your visit in our gift store and put $15 from your visit fee toward grabbing some of the best salt and water you will find anywhere.

Our special tours are designed for families these School Holidays to try something different together.
