The Savour Northland Challenge, proudly sponsored by Northland Inc, is the competition element of our annual festivities. We invite restaurants, cafes, bars and food trucks across the region to create an exceptional dish using only local ingredients, and pair it perfectly with a Northland-made drink.

We have many amazing ingredients they could choose from! Sustainable Haku Kingfish, farmed on land in Ruakākā, the mighty kumara, plump and juicy oysters or a wide variety of citrus and sub-tropical fruits, vegetables and award-winning cheeses.

The perfect pairing can be any alcoholic or non-alcoholic beverage. We have an abundance of world-class wines, champion craft beer and boutique distillers located from Mangawhai to the Far North. Or they might decide to use local coffee or make a Northland-inspired smoothie.

The emphasis is on innovation, authenticity, and regional pride. We cannot wait to taste the culinary and liquid delights presented!

Savour Northland Challenge Information:

Criteria: Create the Perfect Pairing
Competitors will present a dish on their menu over October with Northland key ingredients as the hero and pair it with a magnificent Northland beverage, alcoholic or non-alcoholic

Judging: A panel of industry experts get that plum job! They visit in secret and award points for composition, creativity, flavour and manaakitanga. The results are revealed at our Savour Northland Challenge Awards night in November.

Whilst the chefs are competing for the prizes and the glory, you will be the winners as you savour and sip your way around the region! Any time you try a Savour Northland Challenge entry, share your review and pics online and you could win some tasty prizes as well!
