Sage at Paroa Bay X The Landing Bay of Islands Winemakers Collaboration 7-Course Dinner

October 18 @ 5:30 pm - 7:30 pm

Join Paroa Bay, Sage Restaurant and The Landing for an incredible collaboration this October! As part of a weekend celebration of Northland food and wine, the Friday evening features a 7-course menu prepared by Sage and The Landing chefs, paired with signature wines from the two vineyards and the opportunity to meet the key personalities from each venue.

Saturday features a sharing-style long lunch menu, again prepared jointly by our chefs and paired with our signature wines.

A recent recipient of One Hat in the coveted Cuisine Good Food Awards 2023/2024, Sage Restaurant at Paroa Bay embodies the kaupapa of Savour Northland exquisitely. The Moana (ocean) and Whenua (land) inform and inspire their menu. From the end of the fishing line cast into the sea to the orchard doors of suppliers and their very own onsite gardens, the focus is on locally grown and sourced ingredients which combine seamlessly into a uniquely creative brand of New Zealand cuisine.

“In a world where sustainability matters, we are extremely proud to know that almost every ingredient in our kitchen has come from just down the road — we even picked some of them ourselves. It is the connection between our surroundings and our menu that sets Sage apart — and when the surroundings are one of the most beautiful natural environments on the planet you can taste the difference.” The Lindis Group

Northland is one of the country’s ‘food baskets’, with superb seafood, fresh produce and grass-fed meats, and is a rising star as a wine-growing region. At The Landing, head chef Mathew Cook, and his team use the best of the Bay of Islands’ outstanding local produce, including the bounty of The Landing’s own gardens, orchard, and nearby fishing spots to create bespoke garden-to-plate dishes pairing perfectly with wines from The Landing’s vineyard.

The Landing Wines are known for their beautifully crafted tropical fruit and mineral flavours, given depth and complexity by Northland’s long, warm summers and coastal aspect. From vine to bottle, every step of the wine-making process takes place on site, starting in the 33-acre vineyard and finishing at the state-of-the-art winery.

The vineyard sits near to where the missionary Reverend Samuel Marsden established the first permanent European settlement in New Zealand. Having identified the land’s suitability for viticulture, he planted what are thought to be New Zealand’s first grapevines in 1819.

Since founding The Landing in 2007, they have honoured the area’s pioneering spirit with an innovative approach and respected the land’s beauty and abundance by nurturing and restoring it through sustainable viticulture.

After recently winning five international gold medals for five wines at two of the world’s major wine competitions, Northland is now making a significant impact globally.

“New Zealand promises to be very favourable to the vine (…) Should the vine succeed; it will prove of vast importance to this part of the globe.” Reverend Samuel Marsden, Bay of Islands, 26 September 1819
