Indulge at the Gumdiggers Café in Matakohe this October where local cooks have created a sumptuous, sweet and spicy kūmara tart, sure to have you coming back for more.

Developed to celebrate the mighty yet humble kūmara, pride of the Kaipara region, it is paired with a delightfully spiced cappuccino using a Gumdiggers Café secret blend of harmonious flavours, warming to the heart. Kūmara enhances and carries sweet or savoury dishes, and the highly nutritious root vegetable leaves you feeling virtuous, even after elegant treats such as these paired delights.

This delectable dish and enlivening drink are modern twists on the autumnal, North American pumpkin pie, balanced beautifully with Northland character, the tart has a comforting infusion of nutmeg and hinamona (cinnamon), and a generous dollop of Créme Chantilly. Ginger, and spice and all things nice, a toffee shard tops the tart creation, along with a kiwi classic – hokey pokey, a nod to the stunning aesthetics of Northland kauri gum. It may have you glowing as you snap into a bite.
